Colonists from England changed the name of their new town on this date, from Trimountaine to Boston. A lot of the settlers were from Boston in Lincolnshire in England, that village’s name itself a corruption of St. Botolph’s town.
Trimountaine referred to the three hills on the Shawmut Peninsula where the colonists were settling, but early on they began to level two of the hills for fill and now only Beacon Hill remains. Here are some views of the little city on the hill:
