Many happy returns to Dame Maggie Smith, probably seen by most of us in the US for the first time in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, for which she won an Oscar.

Maggie Smith made her stage debut in 1952 and hasn’t stopped working since.  Now 77, she appeared in Downton Abbey this year and in 2012 starts filming Quartet, a comedy directed by Dustin Hoffman in which she plays a character – nice symmetry here – named Jean.

And that’s all the news from Hollywood this week.

  1. This IS Professor Minerva McGonagall, Transfiguration teacher, and Head of Gryffindor House at Hogwarts! The Harry Potter series was SO fortunate to have her and so many other distinguished British actors in its cast!
